The fifth and last Eu4shepherds workshop took place in Lunca Ilvei, Bistrița-Năsăud county (Romania), on 13, 14 and 15 June 2023.
The main objective of the workshop was to share with the project partners and local stakeholders the good practices of extensive sheep management in this region of Romania.
The workshop took place in several sessions during which different activities were carried out. On the one hand, the project partners, together with the stakeholders, analysed certain needs that emerged from the feedback with the participants in the different multiplier events. In this sense, it was concluded that, in general in all countries, there is a real need for the dissemination of the importance of extensive livestock farming in society. Therefore, both partners and stakeholders worked on the development of didactic material to meet this need.
On the other hand, an exchange of experiences took place in various institutions of the sector. First of all, the partners visited the Silvania International sawmill in Lunca Ilvei and exchanged experiences with its director on the use of local sheep wool as insulation in the construction of wooden buildings. They also exchanged experiences with local shepherds, local livestock farmers and a local rural tourism company. These experiences helped to enrich the goals of EU4Shepherds as well as to further disseminate its results with local stakeholders.
Before starting the workshop, the partners took advantage of the presence of all the partners to hold the last face-to-face coordination meeting of the project.
